Bowled Over by You!

Hello, Friends!

I have a new card to share with you! It's based on the Wednesday My Favorite Things Sketch Challenge #317.

As soon as I saw this sketch, I instantly thought of the My Favorite Things stamp set, Kitschy Kitchen and the sentiment set which goes with the Kitschy Kitchen images, You Bake Me Happy.  Kitschy Kitchen has all kinds of stamps in it which you would find in your kitchen, like a pitcher, plate, whisk, spoon, cannisters, lemons, bananas, vases with flowers to go in them and two sizes of bowls.  The sentiment set has all kinds of super cute phrases, such as

"You're My Zest Friend"
"Life Is Short. Lick The Bowl" and
"Whisk You Were Here."

Because Kitschy Kitchen has two bowls in the set, I knew I could use either the larger or smaller to make stacks of bowls with my favorite sentiment,

"I'm Bowled Over By Your Generosity."

I had wanted to make windows to follow the sketch, with My Favorite Things Inside and Out Rectangle STAX which leave stitch marks on the inside and outside of a rectangle when it is die cut.  Unfortunately, I just didn't have enough space on my card.   So, I used the "inside" rectangles that I had cut when I was trying to make my windows for the white background for my bowls.  Of the two bowls available, I used the smaller one for my card.  I stamped two of them in five different colors, which I have listed below.  Then I randomly stacked them on the white base, making sure to tilt some in different directions like bowls that had shifted in their big stacks.  I adhered the white background paper with the bowls on it to the gray card stock with foam tape because I believe almost every card looks better with some dimension added to it!  It looks flat in the picture, but it isn't.

Then, the hard part struck.  My sentiment just didn't look right next to the chevron paper.  I liked the Gravel Gray background card stock which matched the ink for one of my bowls.  I liked the bowls.  I liked the chevron paper on the side but the sentiment just looked like I had slapped it on at the last minute.  It didn't look complete.  Luckily I had another one of My Favorite Things paper pads out and began trying other papers from it as a mat for my sentiment.  This blue with white polka dots piece matted my sentiment and made it look complete.  Things were getting better, but it looked out of place right next to the chevron paper.  So, I moved it over just a tiny bit and it looked much better!

Although I didn't follow the sketch 100%, my card was definitely inspired by it.  I have to remember, when someone receives this card, he or she isn't going to know there was a sketch that it was based off of when I made it.  So, the card needs to look it's best on it's own, which meant I had to move my sentiment over just a tiny bit.

Did you notice how the card stock matched the ink perfectly?  Did you notice that the patterned papers also matched the inks perfectly?  My Favorite Things is another company that makes products that match which make it 100 times easier when you're putting a card together!  As always, all of my supplies are listed at the bottom of this post, so you'll be able to see all of the matching products that I used to make this card.

What do you think of this color combination?  After a while, I reach for the same colors over and over so I challenged myself to use different colors than the same ones I always tend to use.  I, personally, was really glad I forced myself out of my box and was really happy with this combo.

I am also entering my card in two other challenges.  Simon Says Stamp's Wednesday Challenge is Anything Goes.  I'm also entering it in the Never Before Used Schtuff #10 Challenge.   This was the first time I got to use my Kitschy Kitchen Stamp Set and Die-namics, as well as the first time I got to use You Bake Me Happy Stamp Set.  I got to break out my two new Paper Pads which I have listed below, also!

Happy Stamping!

Love it! The bowls with their colors and that little design look sort of retro and fun. We can pretend the bowls are in a white cabinet and the house settled a bit making the doors to the cabinet off a smidge just like in the sketch! The sentiment could be the drawer to the cabinet. Whatever, I love the colors and I have to get me that set of sentiments - I think they are grate, err, I mean great! This is one of my favorite cards! I am still smiling!
