Hello, Friends!
I didn't think about it at the time, but now it seems appropriate to make a card that says, "Hello, Friend" since that's how I always open my blog posts! Be sure to read to the bottom of this post because I have good news to tell you about Frank!
I would like to point out that I have a card made for the Papertrey Ink Make It Monday Challenge, and it's not at the last minute on Sunday night! Usually I'm squeaking in at the last minute and am the last entrant or close to it in their challenges. This time, other people will actually get to see my card because they won't have moved on to the next challenge. Woo Hoo for getting a card made early this week!
Like I said, my card was created for this week's Papertrey Ink Make It Monday Challenge #273 Spinner Cards. I had never made a spinner card like this before and it looked easy enough so I decided to take the challenge.
Lizzie, one of the amazing Design Team members of PTI, created the card above as an example of this week's challenge. I liked the card so much, I chose to use her design on my card as well as her directions for making it! Unfortunately, I didn't have any Valentine's sets from PTI that would work for this challenge, so I decided to go for the flowers and sentiment in the Bloomin' Cute Stamp Set instead.
You'll notice that I have a pretty simple line of flowers going across my card. After two tries before this one, I found that I liked the "less is more" approach! Other lines ended up looking too cluttered and messy, so I went for this simple row of flowers instead.
Normally, I would give you the rest of the directions for making this card here. This time, though, I think the easiest way to learn to make a spinner card is just by watching Lizzie's video which you can see here. She shows all of the step by step instructions to make the card shown above. I was able to create a card with her directions, so I'm sure you could follow them, too!
The only tip I have is to be positive that your shape that is going inside of your window is symmetrical, so you can glue the two sides together, back to back, and they fit together perfectly. The flower I had planned to use looked symmetrical, but actually, it was not. The flower I ended up using was pretty close to symmetrical, but not exactly. Thankfully, it was close enough that I could trim the tiny parts that hung off on each side without it being noticeable that I had performed a bit of cosmetic surgery on my flowers!
Now that I've made one of these cards, it would be super easy to create more. Wouldn't it be fun to use a pumpkin for fall cards or an ornament or bell for Christmas cards? This is a fun design and it will work year 'round.
Besides the Papertrey Ink Challenge site, I am also entering my card is two other challenges. Simon Says Stamp's Wednesday Challenge is Anything Goes. My dear friend is also still hosting the NBUS, Never Before Used Schtuff, Challenge #9. My NBUS is the stamp set and dies that I used for this card. It's also the first time I've used this color of card stock.
Good news about Frank!
Frank the Wiener Dog had some blood work done this week to check on his liver and gallbladder function. Both of them had not been functioning very well at one time. This week, Frankfurters results were the best he has had in the last year! This is wonderful news. His vet was as happy to call and give us the results as we were to hear them! He is 15 1/2 years old so this is fabulous news that will hopefully give us more time with our wonderful wiener dog!
