Boys Will be Boys... and Winners Announced

Hello, Friends!

First, let me announce the winners of the 500th Blog Post Giveaway!

Winner of 2 Itty Bitty Stamp Sets from Unity Stamp Company

#5 Pam Spicer

Winner of a Surprise My Favorite Things Die

#3 Chris R

Very officially, my Dad picked the random numbers of our winners.  Even though Chris had left me two comments, she was only given one chance to win and just happened to win with that chance!

If each of you could contact me, with in the next 2 days, I would appreciate it.  Pam, I will send you your choices after I hear from you.  Then, I will get both packages in the mail.

Now onto today's card!  It's a funny one!

At least ten years ago, my parents and I got Chinese food on a January 1st.  It's been so long ago that I don't even know for sure if I had Frankfurter or not.  I remember it was a New Year's day, though, and it's supposed to be good luck to each Chinese food on New Year's.  Plus, it's yummy whether it's good luck or not.  The fortune in my fortune cookie said,

"Boys will be boys
and so will a lot of middle aged men."

I remember this because every single time I have eaten Chinese food since then, I have thought about that fortune.  Why?  It is the most accurate fortune I have ever gotten in my entire life and it's hilarious!  I've gotten other fortunes that it's a good time to start something new and things like that, but nothing has been as provable in my life as this fortune.

I am still single for a reason.  I have horrible taste in men.  They seem nice at first and I am an optimist, but sooner or later, God saves me and the relationship ends.  That's not a joke about God saving me.  It's the truth.  He's protected me from some real doozies.  I've also found the statement

"There's worse things than not being married like...
being married."

has been true for me.  I wanted to get married.  I always thought I would get married and have kids and live happily ever after, but I never got the proposal.  Considering who I was dating, in hindsight, I see this is a very good thing.  I didn't think so at the time, but I know so now.  They weren't "cute, just need to grow up" middle aged men, but were "manipulative, not really very nice" middle aged men.  It's hard for me to be alone, especially when it means my parents had to step in and help me while I've been hurt, but it's better than being with someone who would have treated me poorly.

I have often thought over the years that this saying about middle aged men should be made into a rubber stamp.  Since then cling stamps and clear stamps have been invented but I haven't seen this saying as one of them.  So, I decided to print it out from my computer and make a card with it anyway.

I designed my saying with free fonts from www.dafont.com.  I printed it out and then cut it with a My Favorite Things Stitched Speech Bubble Edges die.  The wildly popular Tim Holtz Bird Crazy stamps were perfect for this saying.  I die-cut my birds with the hard to find Bird Crazy dies. I used the color challenge at ColourQ, which I loved instantly, for my colors.

(Don't those look like comfy pajamas?  I adore comfy pjs.)

Anyway, I added some patterned paper, embossed some card stock, put it all together and my card was complete.

That's when I learned something else besides middle aged men will also be boys.  I need A LOT more practice coloring birds.

You know when you have something perfect in your mind?  I had the quote.  I had the stamp.  I had wonderful colors.  What could go wrong?

Well, coloring the bird, for one thing.  Figuring out how to make it into a card was another one.

I posted my card anyways to show you that not all cards end up perfect.  Just like not all (any) middle aged men end up perfect.  Speaking of men who don't exactly grow up...

I recently saw my Dad get a Batmobile in a Happy Meal when he didn't want much to eat.  That "more than middle aged man" couldn't have been any happier than a five year old who had gotten the same toy!  My Grandma and I both saw it and agreed that it was pretty cute!

Happy Stamping, Friends!

So glad your dad could put down his batmobile to pick me as a winner! I am still smiling about his prize and he probably didn't even eat his much of his meal - making it truly a Happy Meal!

The card is so cute and funny - love the saying and it is so true! I gotta check out the birds stamp set!

Hope you are having a good long weekend. I will E-mail you my address. Thanks again! Give Frankie a little hug for me and your dad a bigger hug!

Can't believe I won. This is a first for me to win anything from someone's blog!! Your card turned out cute. I have this bird set and just love them. My son is 38 and has never married but wants to be too, but all of his relationships were not good either. I think he has given up, but I told him the right one hasn't come along yet. I have emailed you. Blessings to you and Frank!
