My Superhero!

Hello, Friends!

I hope you were able to enjoy the Unity Blog Hop this past Sunday.  It was a lot of fun and an honor to participate in with such talented stampers!

I've got a super fun card to share with you today!

Why do I like this card so much?  One reason-
because it's MY DAD!!

This is a Birdie Brown stamp set from My Favorite Things called "Super Boy."  It actually matches the larger Birdie Brown set "You're Super" which is also from My Favorite Things.  I made a card for my Mom with it first because it has a Super Girl.  I thought I had shared it on my blog but found I had not, so I'll share it with you later.  When the companion set with a boy came out, I wanted to get it so I could make a matching card for my Dad.  Tonight, I finally got it done!

I love the Super Boy!  I'm proud to say that it shows I'm getting better at coloring hair.  The shading is pretty decent.  My favorite thing, though, is the mustache which I added.  I had colored the whole image and it looked cute but when I was looking at my Dad, I knew my Superhero had to have a mustache.  My Dad has had a mustache my whole life.  So, there's no way I could have a Super Boy that was my Dad without a mustache.  Because this was the first facial hair I had ever created, I stamped an additional Super Boy head and practiced on it.  When I was sure I had it right, I added it to my completed image.  With a few strokes of a couple of Copic markers, my Superhero now looked just like my Superhero!  (Well, the face looked like my Superhero.  My Dad doesn't usually wear a spandex Superhero costume.  That's only on holidays and special occasions!  LOL!)

Although my Dad does NOT actually wear the costume, he is my superhero.  He runs all of my errands because of my back and takes me to all of my doctor's appointments.  He lifts various things and brings them to me because of my back.  He has taught me to like The Walking Dead, other Sci-fi shows and WWE Wrestling, which we watch together.  (I never thought any of that would happen- especially that I would want to go to live wrestling shows, which are so much fun and we both love!)  Long before I hurt my back though, my Dad was my superhero.  He taught me to love God and make my faith an integral part of my life at all times, not just on Sunday mornings.  He baptized me when I was a kid.  He is my rock.  He is the person I can pour my heart out to and I know no matter what, he will always love me.  Not only is he my superhero, but countless others, as well. He investigated child abuse cases, supervised the investigators and then was chosen by the state of Illinois to review cases, for more than 30 years.  That is a job I could not do, but my Dad helped save thousands of kids during that time from the abusive homes they lived in.  He is also the hero of a certain wiener dog who lives in our house and knows him as "Grandpa."  They are "the boys" and they both love each other very, very much.  In fact, Frank loves my Dad almost as much as I do.

I could type for another hour about all of the great things about my Dad, but I'll stop.  I know all of you are busy and have things to do besides reading about my great Dad.  I just hope all of you are lucky enough to know a man like my Dad.  Then you'll be as blessed as I am!

I made my card based on this week's sketch from My Favorite Things.  I changed the circle to an oval and lowered the piece across my Super Boy so it didn't cover up any of his costume.  The words looked better just going across the picture instead of all the way across the card, so I changed that, too.  As great as sketches are, what really matters most is that the card at the end looks good.  I am so very thankful for this sketch challenge though, because it let to my card, which led to the chance to brag about my Superhero, my wonderful Dad!
I am also entering my card in the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Anything Goes Challenge.

Happy Stamping!
