Avery Elle Embossed Party Animal

Hello, Friends!

I hope you all had a great weekend and are ready to begin another week!

Back at the beginning of August, Avery Elle announced that they were having an embossing challenge for this month which you can see here.  They left this challenge wide open and said projects could include,

"Heat embossing, dry embossing, debossing, letterpress, faux letterpress – seriously, the sky’s the limit!"

Avery Elle has a lot of great stamp sets and dies.  They even have pigment ink in beautiful colors, which I would definitely like to try.  There is one stamp set with a matching die that is my favorite though.  Party Animal, featuring the wiener dog balloon animal is the best, in my opinion!  You all know I love anything "wiener dog" related!

Challenge 27

As soon as I saw the challenge I had an idea.  I thought it would be fun to make my own embossing "plate" with the Party Animal die featuring the wiener dog balloon animal.  I cut a bunch of wiener dogs out of thick, flat cardboard and glued them to another piece of thick, flat cardboard.  I ran my card stock through my Big Shot, but it didn't push up the image and emboss it on the other side of the card stock.  It debossed the image somewhat, but I couldn't figure out what to do with it.  I saved it though, so you may see a card with that paper sooner or later!  I don't know if my cardboard wasn't thick enough or if my 80 lb card stock I tried to emboss was too thick.  Anyway, that had been my original plan since I saw this challenge.  So, I had to move on to Plan B.

Since I wanted a raised wiener dog image, I tried the next best thing.  I cut a bunch of wiener dogs out of the same color of card stock that I was going to use for my background.  Then, I arranged them and glued them down when I had them the way I liked them.  This faux embossing gives the same type of appearance as an embossing folder and can work if you have a die-cut image that you love.  I did stamp the saying that comes with the Party Animal stamp set in black pigment ink and embossed it with embossing powder.  So, I do have an actual form of embossing on my card, just not the way I had intended!

My card design is based on the 200th Sketch Challenge at Freshly Made Sketches.  I have used their sketches for years for different card ideas and wanted this card to congratulate those amazing
"Party Animals at Freshly Made Sketches"
for creating 200 fabulous sketch challenges.  Their sketches have resulted in thousands and thousands of great cards over the years that they've been creating them.  There are a lot of great cards on their website this week to celebrate their 200th sketch.  If you have time, I encourage you to go and check out all of the different cards that can be made off of one clean and simple sketch!

Whether your first idea works or you have to move on to another idea, take some time to create something that makes you smile this week!

Happy Stamping!
