Honey Bear Valentine's Day Card

Hello, Friends!

Valentine's Day is just around the corner.  I have already made the card I needed for a special 4th grade girl in my life.  Now, I needed to make a card for her 1st grade brother.  I knew he probably would prefer that his card wasn't covered in red and pink hearts with lace and other girly things.  So, I chose this bear stamp from The Cat's Pajamas to be the main focal image for my card.  Bears are manly, even if it's this cute one that you just want to give a hug!  Instead of using red as my main color, I went with the yellows and browns of honey and bears.  The red hearts were just accents.  This made my Valentine card still an obvious valentine card, but it was a little bit more masculine for a growing first grade boy.  I hope he likes it because I sure like him!

There are a few details I really like on this card that may be overlooked in the picture.  I added clear Wink of Stella to the bee's wings so they would be sparkly.  I added Glossy Accents to the honey pot over the honey and the black top of the honey pot so it would look like wet, sticky honey.  I added my Washi tape for the bear to sit on.  I took Baker's Twine in red and white and in black and white and twisted them together.  This gave me Baker's Twine in red, white, and black which was the perfect accent for my card.  Finally, after fussy-cutting the bear, the heart in his hand out of patterned paper, and the honey jar, I attached the heart and honey jar with 3D foam tape so they would stand out from the card.  These small details gave the card a lot of texture and height that I thought a first grader might like.

To make my card, I used the sketch from the same people who designed the stamp set I used.  The Cat's Pajama's Tuesday Challenge is posted on their blog, located here.  There are some great entries for this sketch.  Also, if you like cards with lots of layers, this seems to be their design team's specialty.  I encourage you to go check them out.

I am also entering my card in the Shopping Our Stash #186: Love Me Do Challenge.  Using products you already have, to use your stash, make a card focused on love.  Again, my card isn't the typical red love card, but it is a love card in non-traditional colors.

The Paper Players Theme Challenge was perfect for me.  It is to created a "Critter-tine."  A Critter-tine is a Valentine to or from our furry friends.  You know how I love our furry friends so this is a great one for me!  My card will be signed by me, but this bear card will also be signed by Frankfurter.  My 1st grade friend likes Frank a lot so this card has both a critter on the front and will be from a critter on the inside.

Happy Stamping!
