Sending Sunshine to You!

Hello, Friends!

Here is another card I created to share with all of you!  I knew coming back to my blog, my first card would feature a wiener dog to honor Frank.  I also knew my second card would be one I'd like to send to each of my followers for their love and support over the years.  While I'd love to be able to make and send a card to each of my blog followers, that isn't possible.  So, I made this card for all of you instead.  I hope it brightens your day!!  Ironically, the sun didn't want to come out for my picture, so it's not as bright and cheery
as I would have liked!

Speaking of not very bright and cheery out, I ask you to join me in continuing to pray for the people in Texas who have been hurt by Hurricane and now Tropical Storm Harvey.  They have suffered terrible losses over the past several days.  If you can, please consider donating to organizations, such as Samaritan's Purse, who will work to help the many people hurting there right now.

My card was designed for a Papertrey Ink Challenge.  They always have a special stamping weekend each year called Stamp-A-Faire.  Stamp-A-Faire 2017 is continuing the 10th Anniversary celebration of Papertrey Ink's business.  Each of the challenges are based on the list of traditional gifts for Anniversaries.  Lots of the challenges are wonderful, but based on time and supplies, I knew I'd only get to do a few of them.  When I saw the 1st Anniversary Challenge featuring the gift of Paper by Laura Bassen, I knew I wanted to use it as a jumping off point for my card.

Laura's challenge, which you can see here, was to use up scraps of card stock that we had from making other cards.  She accomplished this by using the Mighty Bloom Cover Plate die.  It is one of my favorites!  Here is her card.

Laura used the die to cut out the entire image from white card stock and removed the white petals.  Then she used the die again to cut petals from different colors of paper.  On top of a white card base, she arranged the colored petals and glued or sewed them into back into the negative spaces.  She also added vellum petals in some places.  There's a video here which shows her making this card.  Isn't this beautiful?!

I knew I wanted to make a card like this because I think a lot of the cover plates end up looking like quilts when they are made into cards, which I love!  I also knew I wanted to use the colors from the Color Throwdown's Challenge #457 which I liked as soon as I saw them.  I wouldn't usually pair a very bright yellow with the other two softer colors, but I wanted to give it a try!

I used the Papertrey Ink Harlequin Cover Plate Die, which you can see here, to cut a solid background from PTI's dark gray card stock.  Then, I removed each of the dark gray diamonds, leaving only an outline of the original design.  Next, I used the same die to cut out the diamond shapes in three more colors of card stock.  I used the  Papertrey Ink Happy Harlequin Stamp Set, which is designed to coordinate with the Harlequin cover plate, to stamp a different pattern on each color.  I covered a white card base with adhesive, glued the dark gray outline to it, and then just filled in the other colors of diamonds in a pattern like a puzzle!

I cut out "Sending Sunshine" from the same yellow card stock three times and the dark gray card stock once, so I could stack them for more impact.  The words didn't show up as much as I wanted them to, so I added a rectangle behind them to make them easier to read.  I also covered the top yellow layer with Wink of Stella, which seems to be my embellishment of choice lately!  After the rectangle with the sentiment was adhered to the card base, my work was finished.

Do you think the background looks like a quilt?

I'll be back again tomorrow with another card to share with you.

Happy Stamping!

Our computer keeps locking up on me. I will keep this brief before it goes down. What a ray of sunshine - just like in Doe a dear a female dear. Ray a drop of golden sun! Etc. I love that background and it does remind me of a quilt.

Hugs,

Chris R. from Iowa
