Humming Along with Iron

Hello, Friends!

I have another card for you!  It seems to be either feast or famine when it comes to my ability to stamp and share cards with you.  Right now, I'm loving that we're in the feast phase!

This card was inspired by Betsy Veldman in every way possible!  If you are unfamiliar with Betsy's work, I encourage you to check out her blog here.  Betsy not only makes gorgeous cards, she designs amazing stamps and dies for Papertrey Ink, too!  Betsy designed the beautiful stamp set I used to create this card, called Humming Along.

Sooooo, how do you like my iron embellishment in the background?

Guess What?

It's not iron.  Betsy's challenge for Stamp-A-Faire taught us how to make this faux iron embellishment!  Isn't it incredible?!  I knew I wouldn't get to participate in most of the challenges so I looked through all of the different ones listed.  This one caught my eye right away and luckily, I had all of the supplies needed to do it except for one, which I was able to do without.  This technique is surprisingly simple, as the video I watched showed showed!

I highly encourage you to check out the
challenge and video by clicking here.

I followed Betsy's instructions completely, except that I didn't have a small bottle to put textured paste mixed with a bit of water in it, so I had to skip that step.  It would have added more texture to my frame, but I think it ended up looking fine without it.  I could tell the easy steps I did follow, but I really want you to see it for yourself!  Watch that video!  :)

I will give you a tip, though!

Betsy uses the Perfect Pearls Aged Patina collection to help create this piece.  I purchased mine from one of the major craft chains (JoAnns, Michaels or Hobby Lobby) with a 40% off coupon.  That's been a while ago, of course, but these are still popular so my guess is you still may be able to find them.  The set I got came with the 4 Perfect Pearls mica powders, the glue-like stamp pad called Perfect Medium and the paint brush you use to apply them.  I also know you can purchase those online, too, if you're interested.

After my faux iron embellishment was complete, I die-cut and stamped the hummingbird and flowers from Betsy's set Humming Along.  Each piece has several pieces to create the final image but they are pretty easy to line up and stamp, especially with the help of the MISTI.

When it came to picking colors and placement, Betsy was the inspiration, again.
I used her colors and basic placement from this card she shared when the stamp set and dies debuted a couple of months ago on her blog here.

Humming-red-thanks

Isn't her card just gorgeous?  She used ink blending for her background.  I tried, but mine did not look good!  So, I moved to a layered background instead.  She added the Berries stamps and leaves, which she also designed, and a sentiment.  I added my Hummingbird and Flowers with foam tape so they would stand out a little bit.  I left my card blank because I don't know who will receive it at this time.  It would work for a birthday card, get well soon, thank you or thinking of you.  I can either add a sentiment on a banner coming from the flowers or just stamp it inside when I get ready to use it.

One thing you may notice- Betsy remembered to stamp the inside of her flowers yellow!  Mine are white because I forgot that step!  This was actually the second card I had made the day I created it, so I was tired and trying to finish up.  I didn't notice I had forgotten this step until I saw the picture.  I'll add those too before I send it!

As you can tell, I loved this challenge!

I also got to use lots of supplies I had never used before, including ink blending tools!  I think ink blending is beautiful but it always scared me!  It's not as hard as it looks although it will take some practice.  My Perfect Pearls were new, also.  Yea for using supplies!  You'll be seeing more of both of these in the future, I'm sure!

I am also entering this card in the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge Anything Goes which you can see here.

Happy Stamping, Friends!!

What a rich look with that iron technique. I am going to have to watch the video on doing that. Look at all the variances in color - just gorgeous. I saw a hummingbird in our roses the other day. It was pretty much just different colors of gray - not really pretty. Maybe there was a little green on it. I love Betsy's work. Well done and I really like your card - such a different look between the iron and the white but I really like both of them. Very versatile. Love those berries on Betsy's card.
