An Altenew Kaleidoscope

Hello, Friends!

It's a miracle!  I haven't been able to post five cards in five days on my blog for years, literally!  No matter how much pain I am in, I have missed stamping and it's been great to find ways so I am able to enjoy this hobby again!

Back on August 1st, Altenew published this color challenge on their blog, here.  I loved the colors the instant that I saw them and was determined to make a card with them!  It was close, but I was able to complete the card I had in mind!

Altenew is a company that I can't wait to share more of their products with you on my blog now that I am able to stamp more.  They make the most beautiful flower stamps ever.  Of course, they also make fabulous other stamps, amazing dies, stencils, embossing powders and fantastic ink pads, too.

One of their amazing dies is this Layered Kaleidoscope Cover Die A.  It is fabulous on it's own, as you can see.  It has a partner, Layered Kaleidoscope Cover Die B.  As the name suggests, they can be used separately or layered together to create amazing cards!

For this color challenge, I just used one single die.  I knew I wanted to color the different geometric shapes with the colors from this challenge, so they looked as though you were truly looking through a kaleidoscope and this was your view.  To do this, I started with a piece of white card stock.  I used the die with an embossing pad which I ran through my Big Shot.  This embossed the images onto the white card stock so I could tell exactly where the shapes were making it super easy to color them in with my Copics.  You can't see the glitter in the picture, unfortunately, but I also used Wink of Stella over the whole colored front.  This is one sparkly card in person!

I knew from the sample photo I also wanted to include gold into my card for the outline.  I thought it would make the colors in the kaleidoscope stand out better.  To do this, I took a piece of white card stock slightly larger than the die I was using and covered the entire piece with Versamark Ink by tapping the Versamark Ink Pad directly onto the paper.  Then I used Altenew's Antique Gold Crisp Embossing Power to emboss the whole page with my heat tool to make my own gold card stock.  (If you love embossing, you need this powder!  It melts gorgeously- so smooth and pretty!)  This time, I used my die to cut out the outline and pieces from my "gold" card stock, instead of just embossing them like the first time.  I adhered the gold outline over the colored embossed card stock.  Finally, I adhered that to a white card stock base and the majority of my card was done!

I wanted to add a fun sentiment to this card.  I thought this would be great as a "congratulations" card, whether it would be for a new home, new job or other accomplishment.  Then inside, I could write congrats on all of the new amazing things you will see in this new phase of your life!

For that sentiment, I used Altenew's "Script Words Die Set" to cut the word "congrats" from another piece of "gold" card stock that I made with the Versamark technique again.  Finally, I adhered it to the card with foam tape.  I wanted the word to stand out a bit from the card, but not take away from the over all image.

I can hardly wait to use this die again!  I'd like to try different colors of card stock inlaid in the outline.   Wouldn't it look fabulous in colors of the rainbow working their way out from the center with some random gold pieces included as well?  Sooner or later, trust me when I say-
you're going to find out!  I saved all of the little gold pieces I had left from making this card so I can put them to good use again!
Be prepared for other Altenew projects as well!

I am also entering this card in the Wednesday Simon Says Stamp's Anything Goes Challenge on their blog here.  Finally, I am adding it to the Addicted to Stamps and More Make Your Mark Challenge here.

Happy Stamping, Friends!
