FMS165 Operation Write Home Love You Tons

Hello, Friends!

Can you believe it's December?  I cannot!  I will soon be making and sharing Christmas cards, at least as long as my back allows, but I had a different card to make first.

I had always wanted to make a specific card for Operation Write Home.  In case you haven't heard of them, Operation Write Home supports our armed forces by sending handmade cards that are blank on the inside so the member that receives it can write in it and send a special card back home.  I have sent them cards to share with our soldiers in the past.  However, I had never made a card from the beginning that I knew was going to be giving to a member of our military.

Last weekend, Operation Write Home wanted to change "Black Friday" to "Red Friday" to support "our nation's heroes with love from home."  They sponsored a blog hop and then invited card makers to make their own love themed card to share with a military member.  This is the card I created.  Now that I have made one, it wouldn't take long to make 5 or 6 more to send in.  Although they have strict guidelines that you need to follow when making and sending cards in, five or six cards means five or six people back home will receive a special card from their loved one.  It's so cool to think that I will get to be part of that special moment, both showing a service member I care by creating this card, and bringing a smile to their loved one's face back home.

Check out Operation Write Home at

for ways that you can both share cards and messages of encouragement with our nation's heroes!

My card goes along with this sketch on Freshly Made Sketches blog.  I used patterned paper for the design behind the heart but otherwise followed it pretty closely.  Like I said, my card may look a little more difficult, but coloring the elephants was the longest part!  Otherwise, it was fast and easy to make.  I wanted it to be special and colorful for the people who would receive it, so it could be used for adults in love or kids.

I know it's a busy time of year, but check out Freshly Made Sketches for some card ideas you could use to make for Operation Write Home soon!

Happy Stamping!
