Merry Christmas with a Small Stuff Christmas

"And the angel said unto them, 'Fear not: for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.  And this shall be a sign unto you; You shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,  'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.'"
-Luke 2:10-14

That's what Christmas is all about.

Merry Christmas, Friends!

Lawnscaping Challenge 96 "Walking in A..."

Hello, Friends and
Merry Christmas Eve!

From the forecast, it looks like a lot of us in the United States may be walking in a winter wonderland during the next few days, just like the song says.  That's not for me, though.  I'd rather be walking in a wiener wonderland!  I had this idea in my head for months and finally put it to paper in a clean and simple design.  I've made a black and tan wiener dog, a blonde wiener dog, and a red wiener dog, which of course is Frankfurter.  Blonde dachshunds are very rare, but there are some out there.  I've seen pictures on Pinterest and they are beautiful.  Not as cute as Frank, of course, but still pretty!  I was going to make this as a card, but the words and my wiener dogs were just a little too squished.  If you know wiener dogs, you know they like their space to stretch out!  I never make larger scenes like this and only make cards, so this was a bit of a stretch for me.  After my wiener dogs were happily walking (and running) through their wonderland, I framed my picture in a floating frame.

That's right!  I left the house, which is a big deal with my back issues, and went and found this frame.  It worked perfectly since my project wasn't an exact size like 5x7 or 8x10.  (It is centered on the glass, but I had to take the picture just a little bit crooked because it wasn't glare proof glass in the frame.  Trust me- you didn't want to see me in my pajamas with the camera trying to get a good picture!  LOL!)

I will be entering my wiener dog project in the Lawnscaping Challenge 96 for a "Merry Christmas."  The wiener dog stamp, alphabet stamps, little snowflake stamps, dies, and patterned paper all come from Lawn Fawn, the company sponsoring this challenge.

This will also be my last entry at Simon Says Stamp's Wednesday Blog Challenge "Winter Inspiration.  Hopefully Simon the dog will like my dogs!

I hope you all have a safe and wonderful Christmas eve and as always,
Happy Stamping!

SSW2-38 All is Bright

Hello, Friends!

It is just a few short days until Christmas!  Can you believe it?  I know I, for one, cannot.  For those of you who follow my blog, I am very thankful I have decided to go a different route with back surgery.  Had I been working off the pain medicines before surgery, the month of December would have been painful and miserable.  Instead, I've had a nice month with my family and I've gotten to keep busy making Christmas cards to share with all of you.  Besides- doesn't it sound dumb to take away someone's pain medication before you've fixed the problem that is causing the excruciating pain?

Common sense...the most uncommon thing in the world!

While I wish I was just two weeks away from surgery instead of back at the beginning getting into a new surgeon, having a doctor who listens and cares about the terrible pain I am in, which all my test results prove, will make it worth the wait.  Until then, I'll just keep stamping away.  I have asked Santa to bring me new disks to go in between the vertebrae in my lower back.  I don't think he typically does that sort of thing, but I'm not going to blow my chance by not asking!  LOL!

Now onto my card!  This cute stamp set, "All is Bright" is by The Cat's Pajamas.  When they have new stamps come out, they do a release party on Splitcoast Stampers.  Last month, I missed it because I had the date wrong and cried!  That's how much fun and nice the ladies are.  The fact that it's a way for me to communicate with people outside the house who aren't suffering with back problems makes it even better, so I was really sad when I missed it.

Shortly after the party, a package of The Cat's Pajamas products came to my house, giving me new goodies to play with and that helped me get over my missed party.  This is the first card I have made with their stamps.  I love the bunny, who's name is Bun Bun.  A lot of their sentiments are funny, which I also like.  Besides "All is Calm, All is Bright" you could also stamp "You light up my life," or "I'm already on the naughty list."  Isn't that hilarious!  They also included the sentiment "Wishing You A Bright And Sparkling Holiday."  So there's a mixture of funny sayings and serious sayings.  I thought, "All is calm, All is bright" from Silent Night for a bunny wrapped in lights was perfect!

My sketch challenge came from a new to me blog called, Sweet Sketch Wednesday 2.  I wanted to make a card with a lot of layers and this one definitely fit the bill!  Because I wanted to make a card in the A2 Rectangular shape instead of a square shape, I had to make a few changes.  For example, I had to change some of their squares to rectangles for the bottom layer.  Hopefully you can still see this great sketch in my card.  I encourage you to go and check out this sketch on Sweet Sketch Wednesday 2 to see how their design team created cards with this sketch.  When I would get lost on what layer I was supposed to be on, I frequently studied the design team samples.  Plus, their samples are adorable and it's always fun to check out other people's cute cards.  There's Wink of Stella on my lights but I can't figure out how to get it to show up on camera when I take a picture.  If you have any tips, please share!

So that's the story behind sweet Bun Bun coming into my life bring light, laughter and joy!

Merry Christmas and Happy Stamping!

SSSC249 Come to Bethlehem

Hello, Friends!

With all the fun Christmas stamps I have here, I realized most of my religious stamps are in storage.  Because the birth of Jesus is what Christmas is really about, I had to make at least one card that expressed that belief.  Thankfully, I found the stamp set here, "Come to Bethlehem" by Stampin' Up.

It was a simple card to make, which is what I wanted, because the message was the most important part.  I stamped the main image in Versamark ink on navy card stock and then embossed it with silver embossing powder.  Since it looked a little too plain directly on the medium blue card stock, I added a layer of silver brushed card stock behind it.  I stamped the sentiment from Unity Stamp Company in Versamark ink and embossed it as well.

I kind of hate to share this card with you because it's so much prettier in person and I couldn't get a good picture of it.  It was hard to get the light to hit the embossing just right so you could read the words.  It doesn't look quite as plain in person as it does in the picture, either.  Hopefully you can get the general idea of it and imagine the silver embossing in your mind a little bit better than the picture shows it!

It was based on this sketch by Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge

I am also entering it in the Clean and Simple on Sunday Christmas Challenge #49.

Happy Stamping and Merry Christmas!

Forest Festivities with a Puppy

Hello, Friends!

I bet you can figure out why I love this stamp!  See the sweet little puppy peeking out of the present on the right corner?  That's the reason! It looks like a wiener dog!

This stamp set, Forest Festivities, was in the Stampin' Up Holiday Catalog in 2011.  Long retired, it doesn't change the fact that I love the cute dog popping out of the box.  I don't know what else is in those other gifts, but the contents can't be better than a dog- a best friend for life.

It reminds me of a quote I heard a while ago.

If you want to hear the pitter patter of little feet,
get a dog.
Dogs cost less and you get more feet!

The check I wrote for Frankfurter was the best money I've ever spent.  It's hard to believe I've had him over 13 years.  We've been in Illinois, Colorado, Arizona and back to Illinois together.  We've lived in an apartment, a duplex, a large house, and now my parents house together.  I've had 4 surgeries- 2 knee, removal of my thyroid, and removal of my gallbladder, with one more to come.  Frank has had 3 surgeries, 2 on his back and 1 on his leg.  The vet calls him "Miracle dog" for how he has recovered.  She is right.  Not because of his recovery from surgery, but because of the joy he has brought to me, my family and everyone else who meets him.

See why I love a stamp that reminds me of Frank?  No matter what happens, life is always better because of that wiener dog.  :)

See you with another Christmas card soon!

Merry Christmas and Happy Stamping!

DS181 and Friends with Flair Sweet Christmas Wishes

Hello, Friends!

It's a Christmas miracle!  I've been able to make and share several different Christmas cards with you over the past two weeks.  I'm determined to use these cute Christmas stamps no matter how my back is cooperating!

I created this card especially for my cousin's family.  We both only have each other as a cousin and neither of us have brothers or sisters.  So, I get to be "Aunt Angela" to her daughter and son.  The card came together easily with the cute penguin stamp from Unity Stamp Company and patterned paper from Doodlebug.  I love both companies!  One of my favorite parts is the little peppermint candy for the ball on the penguin's hat.  I added the green stripe on the candy cane so it matched the paper even better.  It was a lot harder to color that little candy cane than I thought it would be, but I'm happy with how it turned out.

Are you ready for Deconstructed Sketch 180? I hope you like it! Here’s the scoop on what you need to do: 1. Use the sketch up top to make a project, any kind you like using any image you like. Use the sketch to inspire your own creativity. Feel free to substitute shapes for what you have available and mount tags and circles to a card base if you’d prefer. 2. Post it somewhere on the internet (your personal blog, Splitcoaststampers, Flickr, Pinterest, etc). Use keyword DS180. 3. Link back here to Inlinkz at the bottom of the post.

My sketch came from the blog Deconstructing Jen.  When you're making a lot of cards, using sketches for the design makes it a lot faster.  It's also a way to invite new people to see your cards and blog, and Frank, of course.  I am also sharing my card with "Friends with Flair" on the Unity Stamp Company blog.  Each Friday, you can share your cards made with Unity stamps on their blog.  Then, on Monday, they announce a winner from a card that was shared as well as someone who commented on the cards that were shared.  The prize?  Free stamps!  As all stampers know, the only thing better than stamps are free stamps!  Check out their blog so you can share or leave comments here!

Happy Stamping and Merry Christmas!

I was very excited to see this "Candy Cane" challenge on another blog I follow because my card definitely meets the candy cane requirement!  I love candy canes and anything peppermint at Christmas- ice cream, peppermint mochas, peppermint sugar cookies, etc. so this was a great idea for a challenge.  You can see other candy cane cards on the Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge blog by clicking here

TSSC345 and Lawnscaping Winter Owl

Merry Christmas, Friends!

I have another Christmas card to share with you.  This little stamp set is from Lawn Fawn and it is adorable!  I just love the sentiment, "Owl I want for Christmas is you."  It's just so sweet!

I used the sketch from Mary Jo's Technostamper blog.  Before I was sick and then hurt, I used to use Mary Jo's sketches all the time, so it was fun to participate in her Monday Lunchtime Sketch Challenge once again.

I tried placing my pieces just like the sketch, but it just didn't look quite right.  When I tried turning the sketch on it's side, the card worked perfectly.

I am entering my card in a few more challenges, as well.

The company who made this stamp set and the die I used to cut out the owl, Lawn Fawn is having a "Merry Christmas" challenge on their Lawnscaping Challenge Blog.  I certainly don't expect to win, but I would love Lawn Fawn to see that I love their products.  They make wonderful stamps sets, dies, paper, and more!  Best of all they have some great wiener dog stamps and dies I have to share later!

I am also entering my owl card in the last Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge of 2014, "Anything Goes."

Merry Christmas and Happy Stamping!

CTS103 and MM139 Furry Christmas

Hello, Friends!

It may be December 17th, but I'm still making Christmas cards with my favorite Christmas stamps!  I absolutely adore the stamp I used today, "Furry Christmas" by Simon Says Stamp.  The dogs and cat are so cute and they were so much fun to color.  I love that it looks like they've posed for their holiday family portrait.  Simon Says Stamps' "Falling Snow Stencil" with embossing paste, which I also love, gave me the perfect snowy scene to put my sweet animals in front of on my card!

I based my card on this sketch from CAS(E) this Sketch!

They make sketches for Clean and Simple cards.  Isn't their name clever?  Their design team sample cards are always great, so I encourage you to check out their website.  I tried putting my animals on a white card front, which is more common for a CAS card.  However, it blended in with the snow too much.  Instead, I added a piece of darker patterned paper and that made the whole scene show up and shine much better.  Clear Wink of Stella makes the snow sparkle in person.

The challenge at Simon Says Stamp this week is "Winter Inspiration."  I think their "Furry Christmas" stamps definitely qualify!
The challenge at Merry Monday is to create a winter themed Christmas card.  My animals fit that challenge as well!

Merry Christmas and Happy Stamping!

MFTWSC206 and The Card Concept 25 Jingle All The Way

Hello, Friends!

It's only 10 days until Christmas and there are so many Christmas cards I still want to make!  Actually, there are so many Christmas stamps I want to use to make into cards!  The stamps I used tonight to make the "deer" card came from the same set I used to make this Santa card.

"Jingle All The Way"  is such a cute set made by My Favorite Things.  I just love it!  The deer I used on my card goes along with the Santa Claus stamps in it so well.  However, I wanted to make a card that just featured the little deer because it is so cute on it's own.

I used a sketch challenge from My Favorite Things to design my card.

Print

This sketch let me feature the deer in the pinking circle with the words right next to it to make the little guy the main feature.

My colors may seem a big strange for a Christmas card.  I certainly could have used the typical red, white, and green instead of beiges and browns.  I got this idea from The Card Concept.

The 25th Challenge at The Card Concept was to make a project based on the photo above.  I did this in several ways.  First, the photo above speaks to me in that it is warm and cozy.  It makes you feel safe and comfortable.  My deer card features the same warm and cozy colors both in the picture and featured on the side.  The colors are soft and inviting in the photo and soft and inviting in my card. Just like you want to snuggle up with a mug of hot chocolate in your coziest pjs, I want to snuggle with that sweet deer on my card.  (He's a stuffed animal on my card and I have always loved sleeping with stuffed animals.  I even started sleeping with a bear again during my back pain issues.  TMI?  Maybe!)  If you look at the tray, you'll see repeating elements in the cinnamon sticks, star cookies, etc.  My card has repeating elements as well, since I used the same deer stamp to make one of my background papers.   There are also a lot of circles in the picture like the mug and the tray.  Even though it comes from the sketch, my card has the pinking circle behind the deer and the circular elements of the scalloped border.  Just like the tray has texture, I colored my deer smoothly with Copic markers and then used my blender pen to go back and remove some of the ink to give the little deer some texture.  This photo also doesn't scream "CHRISTMAS" at me, but it certainly could be a picture used for Christmas.  My deer card doesn't scream Christmas, either, but it can be used for Christmas and will be.  I hope you can see how this photo although completely different from my card layout actually had a lot to do with the card's design.

Now for the hardest part- what category does my card fall into?
I would say it is clean and layered.  This is what defines a clean and layered card.
clean lines
lots of layers
designer papers/embossing
(I made my own designer paper and embossed my sentiment)
clean and fresh looking
some colored images at times
white space

Well, if you don't take white space literally that it must be white, but can be brown, then my card has white space-it's not all filled up with patterns and designs all over the whole card.  The scalloped layer is just solid cardstock, as is the base of the card.

Do you agree that it's Clean and Layered?
If you go to The Card Concept, you can click on "The Styles Defined."  There you can judge if I put my card in the right category or not.  Please leave a comment and let me know what you think.  I'm new at this card labeling so I'd like to have some feedback!

I know this post is long, but I wanted to share the inside of my card.  Since it's on dark card stock, it would be hard to write on.  The scallops on the inside match the ones on the out and now I have another cute little reindeer for the recipient.  Surprise!

10 days, Stampers!  Just 10 days!  Get busy!

Happy Stamping!

VC Rocks Blog Hop FMS166 Festival of Trees

Hello, Friends!

Merry Christmas!  Welcome to the first Holiday VC Rocks Blog Hop!  You may remember that I participate in VC Rocks, a fun group of wonderful ladies that meets during the summer and uses Stampin' Up products to make cards, scrapbook pages, and other crafts.  I always try and join their blog hops during the summer because the ladies make such wonderful goodies!  This year they are having a Holiday Blog Hop in December.  Even though I've had an awful week with my back, I wanted to get to join.  You can see everyone's Holiday projects by going to
When you go, you'll see the participants in the blog hop.  Click on a design to go to the blog featuring that card for a special treat.   Then, come back to the main VC Rocks page to go to the next card.

My card features the Stampin' Up stamp set, "Festival of Trees," and the matching "Tree Punch" in the Holiday Catalog.  I had the idea for the three Christmas trees for awhile.  I just hadn't been able to make it into a card.  When I saw this week's sketch at Freshly Made Sketches, I knew it would be perfect for my Christmas tree idea.  I'm really happy with the sweet, country Christmas look of this card.
Although my ribbons on my card are retired from Stampin' Up, it would be easy to create this card using current products like Bakers Twine for the ribbon on the side and the current Venetian Crochet Trim.

Because of the pearl bling on my card, it fits the challenge "Bling It On" on Simon Says Stamp, as well.

Now, be sure to go to www.vcrocks.blogspot.com to see the other Holiday cards and projects!

Happy Stamping!

MFTWSC205 Jingle All The Way

Hello, Friends!

Merry Christmas!  I've finally been able to start working on some Christmas cards.  Although I'm not a huge "Santa" person, this little guy or maybe big guy is just so stinkin' cute I had to make a card with him!

Although he could be reading a letter in this stamp, I think he's made his list and he's checking it twice.  Even though that's obviously the first page of many, Santa found your name right at the top of the nice list!  This means lots of red and green presents will be finding their way under your Christmas tree.

Print

My card is based on a sketch by the same people that made this stamp, My Favorite Things

It also fits the Holiday Card Challenge at Simon Says Stamp.

Congratulations on being good boys and girls this year!

Happy Stamping!

One-Layer Honor with Holiday Home!

Hello, Friends!

No- you're not seeing double and no- I didn't forget that I already showed you this card.  I wanted to share with you that the One-Layer Simplicity Challenge blog chose my card as one of their favorites from November's entries.  Since this was my first one-layer card, I was very honored that it was chosen!

On their November 28th post, Susan said,
"Angela created a lovely, home-y scene in perfect colors to pop right off the crisp, white background. Her use of glitter to accent the house and trees is spot-on, and that darling wreath is handled perfectly!"

Wasn't that sweet!  To see the other cards that were selected for this honor, click

FMS165 Operation Write Home Love You Tons

Hello, Friends!

Can you believe it's December?  I cannot!  I will soon be making and sharing Christmas cards, at least as long as my back allows, but I had a different card to make first.

I had always wanted to make a specific card for Operation Write Home.  In case you haven't heard of them, Operation Write Home supports our armed forces by sending handmade cards that are blank on the inside so the member that receives it can write in it and send a special card back home.  I have sent them cards to share with our soldiers in the past.  However, I had never made a card from the beginning that I knew was going to be giving to a member of our military.

Last weekend, Operation Write Home wanted to change "Black Friday" to "Red Friday" to support "our nation's heroes with love from home."  They sponsored a blog hop and then invited card makers to make their own love themed card to share with a military member.  This is the card I created.  Now that I have made one, it wouldn't take long to make 5 or 6 more to send in.  Although they have strict guidelines that you need to follow when making and sending cards in, five or six cards means five or six people back home will receive a special card from their loved one.  It's so cool to think that I will get to be part of that special moment, both showing a service member I care by creating this card, and bringing a smile to their loved one's face back home.

Check out Operation Write Home at
www.operationwritehome.org
for ways that you can both share cards and messages of encouragement with our nation's heroes!

My card goes along with this sketch on Freshly Made Sketches blog.  I used patterned paper for the design behind the heart but otherwise followed it pretty closely.  Like I said, my card may look a little more difficult, but coloring the elephants was the longest part!  Otherwise, it was fast and easy to make.  I wanted it to be special and colorful for the people who would receive it, so it could be used for adults in love or kids.

I know it's a busy time of year, but check out Freshly Made Sketches for some card ideas you could use to make for Operation Write Home soon!

Happy Stamping!
