TSSC332 Fall Fest and Mingle All The Way

Hello, Friends!

This is a clean and simple little Halloween card I made to go along with Mary Jo's Monday Lunchtime Sketch Challenge.  I used to get to participate in her challenges all the time, but my back hasn't let me for a while.  I still get the emails showing the sketches, though, and when I saw this one, I knew it would be perfect for this cute little ghost from Stampin' Up's stamp set, "Fall Fest."  I love that it has "Fun Fall" framelit dies that cut out the main images in the set.  That made this card a breeze to put together, even with a bad back!  (I have a doctor's appointment Thursday, Sept. 18th when most of you will be reading this, for help with my back.  Please pray that this doctor will be able to help!  I've been stamping in spite of it, but it would be really nice to be able to leave the house and live a normal life again!)

Back to stamping!  Since everything that is Stampin' Up's color Tangerine Tango is the exact same color, I just grabbed my Tangerine Tango marker, washi tape, and patterned paper.  I've been into heat embossing lately, so I stamped my ghost in Versamark ink and then used white embossing powder to make him show up on the black card stock.  It didn't fill in perfectly, but I like the texture it added to the card.  I colored in the white parts of the sentiment from the "Mingle All The Way" stamp set with my Tangerine Tango Stampin' Write Marker.  I used the Tangerine Tango washi tape from the Retro Fresh set, which I have but never seem to think of, for the banner on the sketch.  Finally, I used the Tangerine Tango striped paper from the Motley Monsters Designer Series Paper set for my background.  Black candy dots added a little interest in the three corners of my square that you could see and my card was complete.

By having a framelit die that cut out my ghost and just grabbing Tangerine Tango and Basic Black items that all matched, this truly was a quick card to make.  Just because it was quick doesn't mean it isn't cute, though, and won't put a smile on someone's face this Halloween!

Happy Stamping!

SU Gently Falling and Unity August KOM

Hello, Friends!

I love fall in the Midwest.  It's one of my favorite things about being back in Illinois.  It's getting cooler here and soon the leaves will start changing.  It's time for pumpkin flavored treats, caramel apples, and hooded sweatshirts.  I must say it again- I love fall and that's what my card is based on today.  Well, fall and the sentiment "even leaves fall for you" going through my head in the middle of the night.

The Unity Stamp Company color challenge, which is shown above, was perfect for my fall leaves.  If you're a Stampin' Up user, you'll also recognize these colors as four of the new 2014-2016 In Colors.  Blackberry Twist, Tangelo Twist, Hello Honey, and Mossy Meadow even sound a bit like fall colors.  I used Soft Suede for the brown and this completed my color palette.

When I showed my mom this completed card, she thought the leaves in the background were a printed piece of paper that I had just cut.  Actually, I made it myself for the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge: Create Your Own Background.  I stamped and embossed the leaf outlines from the retired Stampin' Up stamp set, "Gently Falling" on watercolor paper.  Then, I "stamped" each of my ink pads in the colors listed above on an acrylic block and added water to them.  This created my watercolor paint.  I used a little mini spray bottle to wet down all of my watercolor paper.  Using watercolor paintbrushes, I filled in the embossed areas of the leaves with the watered down ink.  I added more ink and different colors until I had my leaves the way I wanted them.  Then, I filled in the entire background with Soft Suede watered down ink.  The hardest part was letting it dry to see the completed product!

I call this technique, "Embossed Watercolor," although I don't know if that's it's real name!  Anyway, it is a technique, so I'm also entering it in the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge: Rock the Techniques.

Now for the center of the card that inspired the whole thing.  I still can't sleep good at night because of my terrible back pain.  So, for some reason, in the middle of the night on Saturday night, the sentiment "even leaves fall for you" kept going through my head.  I don't know why, but the more I thought about it, the more I loved it.  From there, I thought about making the background, entering it in the Simon Challenge...and before long, my card was created.

The sentiment comes from the Unity Stamp Company August 2014 Kit of the Month, "Summer Collapses Into Fall."  The little leaf I stamped three times next to the sentiment also is included in this awesome kit.  Before long, I was able to create my card.  It wasn't exactly like I had pictured in the middle of the night, but I like it even better.  Plus, for all the hours I've been awake, it's about time something good came out of it!

Happy Stamping!

MFTWSC193 and Fusion Shiny Pink Challenge Sweet Birthday Wishes

Hello, Friends!

Hold on to your hats, everybody.  I got to make two cards this weekend!  They are both completely different styles but I really like them both.  I'll be sharing the second card tomorrow, so be sure to stop back in and see it.

My first card is based on the company, "My Favorite Things" sketch challenge and the photo from the Fusion challenge.  This is the first time I've entered a card in either challenge.  I wanted a bright, happy card for my Aunt's birthday coming up this week.  The color challenge from Fusion reminded me of the color Strawberry Slush from Stampin' Up which was perfect for my card.  It looks a little bit darker in the photo, but in person, it's a brighter pink.  I used the Stampin' Up Color Coach to get my coordinating colors, Crisp Cantaloupe and Coastal Cabana.  These are all part of the In Color Collection from 2013-2015.  I used My Favorite Things stamps and dies in my card.  I colored the MFT birthday cupcake tree with Copic markers.  All of the dies I used came from MFT and made putting this card together a snap.  They call their dies, "Die-namics."  Isn't that cute?  I love the Stitchable Dot Circle dies from MFT because it punches all the holes in the circle for you and you can add stitching or a piece of colored card stock behind the circle's holes for an extra cute touch.  (I'm not patient enough to punch all those holes and then stitch on my card, too!)  My birthday sentiment banner came from the Pierced Fishtail Flags.  The die was actually too long and only had the cut end on one side with a straight end on the other.  It was easy, though, to cut it one way, flip the die around so the fishtail was on the other side and cut it a second time so the paper was shorter and had an identical fishtail on both sides.  The frame around the card is the same color card stock as the actual card, but the Rectangle Frame dies still add some texture and design to the card instead of just putting the patterned paper down directly on the card itself.  Finally, my little Coastal Cabana  banner came from the Blueprints 15 die set which has the components to make a several different cards all with that set.

I hope you've enjoyed the birthday card I made.  Be sure to come back tomorrow and check out the card for autumn I've made!

Happy Stamping!
